San Francisco, CA

In the early hours of August 1, 2023, a massive fire swept through a building under construction in San Francisco's Hayes Valley neighborhood, causing it to partially collapse. The San Francisco Fire Department reported the fire at 5:54 a.m. in the area of Octavia and Oak Streets. The fire quickly escalated, reaching four alarms by 6:30 a.m. Over 130 firefighters were deployed to the scene, battling the blaze with more than 40 fire apparatuses.

The fire extended to four neighboring buildings, causing significant water and fire damage. Occupants of these buildings were swiftly evacuated, and thankfully, no injuries have been reported. However, eight residents were displaced due to the incident. The fire's intensity was such that it damaged some of the fire apparatuses and even cracked windows across Octavia Boulevard, a six-lane street with an island in between, demonstrating the severity and heat of the fire.

The fire's heat was intense enough to crack windows across Octavia Boulevard, which runs parallel to Octavia Street along a several-block stretch. The fire department's spokesman, Captain Jonathan Baxter, explained that a building under construction burns quickly and at a higher intensity because it lacks doors, sprinkler systems, and walls that could limit the fire's spread.

The construction site, once a promising addition to the Hayes Valley neighborhood, is now a charred skeleton. Firefighters must remove all of the scaffolding surrounding the construction project before the streets around the burned structure can re-open, which may take several hours. This incident has severe implications for the developer, who now faces the daunting task of starting the entire project anew, if at all.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with urban development and the importance of stringent safety measures. As the city grapples with the aftermath, the focus now shifts to aiding the displaced residents and investigating the cause of the fire. The San Francisco Fire Department's fire investigation task force is currently probing the cause of the blaze, with the aid of a Contra Costa County Sheriff's K-9 unit.

“After meeting with a few real estate agents, we decided to choose Tim for our home purchase and we were not disappointed. Tim was always a text or a phone call away and provided us with everything we needed and more. He was with us every step of the way during the experience and we couldn’t have asked for a better agent. He is extremely knowledgable of the current market landscape and helped us negotiate for an offer below asking in the San Francisco market (amazing right?!). He is kind, friendly and will always have your best interest in mind when he is assisting in your home purchase. We wholeheartedly believe that if we had chosen another real estate agent to work with we might not have been able to purchase our home since Tim brings a bunch of intangible skills to the table that other agents simply do not possess. We would highly recommend Tim to our friends and family and we will not think twice about working with him again in the future.”

“My husband and I were the first time home buyers. We contacted Tim just couple of months after moving to San Francisco. Tim really helped us to learn about different neighbourhoods in SF. He showed us all the apartments that we wanted to visit even the ones that we could not afford. He is a good negotiator and we end of buying an apartment below the asked price.”
